When flying this season, and any holiday season, you will see the flight crews in uniform spending their holidays helping people reach their event celebrations with the ones they love. I used to feel a little guilt, sympathy and remorse for these airline crews, thinking that they were sacrificing their most precious moments for my own. That's one way to view it.
Here's another perspective that was shared with me from an Alaska Airlines Captain, my husband:
He loves working holidays as he feels his flight time is more appreciated and valued by bringing loved ones together for very special connections. It's more of a mission from the heart - the sheer joy of reuniting those with the ones they love during a special time of the year.
I believe in the mission. And,... he promises to make it up to me when he does get home eventually.
