Depoe Hills : Sea Farther

Elizabeth Henderson October 19, 2023

We stopped into this new development to check out the views and what the new construction plan would be for the top of the hill - Depoe Hills.  We met with Ed Tanabe, Principal Broker with Cascade Sotheby's International Realty.  We got to see builder plans for a 2,467 SF, 4 Bed, 4.5 Bath home.  I thought the layout was smart for putting the bedrooms on the main level with best accessibility and then reach up to the second level for the views in the kitchen and living flexible space. As you drive up the hill more options with the different build phases will be released.  There will be over 400 homesites with vacation and full time residences.  No pricing yet released.  Beautiful views down the coastline!  The planning for the development is for a beautiful community space at the top of the hill with various living plans within walking distance.  It seems like it would be a great base for coastal adventures.

We are always looking for new favorite dog friendly places to spend a quick night.  We've stayed at Salishan Coastal Lodge in the past and just learned that a new company has taken over the lodge and expanding into a few new locations.  We stayed at one of the new locations at SCP in Depot Bay - the World's smallest Harbor!

If you don't know about Otis Cafe, give it a try.  Remember the little town of Otis with that little cafe right next to the post office?  Otis Cafe always had a line and just a few tables of loyalists that would gladly wait for their German Potatoes with Tillamook Cheddar Cheese.  On July 4th, 2019 the little Otis Cafe burned down, without anyone hurt.  They are now in a much larger location, but kept their original front benches and some of their original stools from the original cafe.  It's hardy breakfast and lunch food and great preparation for coastal hikes and beach time.

To finish your trip with something a little fancier for dinner, we really enjoyed the general manager at the Whale Cove Inn.  She's on vacation in Europe for the next month, but we ordered everything she recommended for us and would do it again!  The food was beautifully presented, and the views are really spectacular.  We’d love to try the hotel some time for a special occasion, but since they don’t allow dogs we’d have to leave the co-pilot behind.
